Soapworks proud to support OutsideIn

Last month we were delighted when social enterpise, OutsideIn approached us asking if we could support them by donating 3,000 bars of soap.  The soap will be included in wash bags that are given directly to people living on the streets of Belfast.

When OutsideIn shared their story we were really impressed with their innovative approach to helping people. They produce stylish and good quality t-shirts, caps and beanie hats and for every one bought the purchaser can then give a free wash bag to a homeless person. They can either do this in person or through OutsideIn. It’s a rather unique way of not only helping someone in need but also encouraging a social interaction with people on the fringes of society.

David Johnston, CEO from OutsideIn said:  “We are so thankful to Soapworks for their generosity in helping us transform the lives of those living on the streets. We are a Belfast based social enterprise which seeks to bridge the gap between society and those who are homeless. As well as supporting local charities, we encourage social interactions on the streets, believing we can tackle the issues of homelessness together. Originally we began with the making and distributing of thermal beanies, however, we soon realised that hygiene on the streets is a massive problem and we needed a solution. We decided to create and provide wash bags, however, we wanted to go the extra mile and provide them with hygienic essentials too.  Every "Oi wash bag" includes a bar of soap and a face cloth and is given directly to a person without a home. With every t-shirt purchased, the customer is given the option of receiving a wash bag to give to someone who is homeless in their community, or they can opt for Oi to give one out for them. With your help, we believe we can rewrite the story of homelessness for good.”

Soapworks recently reached our 2 million soap bar donation; our commitment to social responsibility goes right back to our founding, we’re delighted to have helped OutsideIn and the inspirational work they do.
